이재필 - 자신과 사회를 반영하는 거울로서의 풍경

이재필에게 있어서 자연은 진실이며 절대미의 대상이다. 때문에 그는 자연의 마음을 얻기 위해 벅찬 가슴으로 돌과 숲과 나무를 그린다. 수묵담채로 표현되는 풍경은 한치의 왜곡도 허용되지 않은 있는 그대로의 자연이다.
철저한 대상의 관찰과 투시는 심연을 꿰뚫듯 정교하고 우리네 어머니의 바늘 뜸처럼 한획 한필 다져가는 붓질이 보는 이로 하여금 그림 속에 빠져들게 하는 매력을 갖는다. 또한 기교가 아니라 온몸으로 투영하는 집념이 서려있기에 상에 대한 본질적 물음을 구하듯 벅찬 감흥으로 다가온다.
사계의 아름다움을 비유나 은유로 감추지 않고 자신의 감성을 느낌그대로 표출한 화면에서 눈을 통해 가슴으로 전해지는 단순함이 달리 해석을 요하지 않은 편안함이 있어 좋다. 풍경 그 자체로서 멋스러움이 자연을 소담하게 바라보는 작가의 맑은 마음과도 일치한다. 자연에 동화되고 합일되었다고 생각되는 그 지점에서 일군 화면이기에 오히려 기법이나 소재 혹은 질료의 분류를 넘어서는 자유로움이 있다. 이는 자연을 바라보는 작가의 신실함이 하나의 종교적 신념으로 끌어 올린 자기억제의 또 다른 표현이라 해도 과언은 아닐 것이다.
숲과 계곡의 맑은 물은 생명을 잉태하는 터로서 경이롭게 드러나고 바위나 조약돌 하나하나에 긴 시간의 흔적을 담아낸다. 따라서 이재필의 풍경은 자신과 사회를 반영하는 거울로 그리고 새롭게 다가오는 내일에 대한 희망의 메시지를 전해주고 있다.

For Lee Jaepil, the nature is the truth and absolute beauty, which is why he paints stones, forests, and trees in an effort to win over the nature. He expresses the nature in its precise form with Indian ink painting.
Rigorous observation and study shows in elaborate description; while detailed brush stroke attracts the viewers into the painting. Also, his determination, as opposed to technique, leaves a deep impression as if his paintings ask the fundamental questions on form.
His painting reveals his true emotion without concealing the beauty of four seasons with metaphor and symbols, and the simplicity comforts the viewers as there is no need for interpretation. The beauty of landscape reflects the clean mindset of the artist as well. There is freedom that reaches beyond any technique or material in his way of looking at the nature. The sincerity with which he observes the nature is another expression of his self-control based on religious faith.
The clean water in the forest and valley is the ground for life and the rocks and pebbles reflect the history within themselves. Therefore, Lee Jaepil’s landscape paintings deliver the reflection of himself and the society as well as the hopeful message for tomorrow.
