Easelly presents 'Essential' a solo exhibition by artist Chris Measor. In this exhibition, the artist explores the fundamental meaning of human labor in a time when we must reexamine the value of “essential workers” in the aftermath of the pandemic. As technology continues to advance, the artist delivers a poignant message about what lies beneath that progress, the overlooked and irreplaceable role of human effort. Inspired by anthropologist David Graeber’s concept of hauntology, the exhibition embodies both a nostalgia for an ideal society centered on labor and a critical awareness of a future where AI and deep learning threaten to replace human work. Amidst this era of rapid transformation, the artist invites us to remember what is truly “essential.” Through each piece, Chris Measor honors the narratives of essential workers who are indispensable to the functioning of society, encouraging a deeper reflection on human value and the significance of labor in a tech-driven world. Using anthropomorphized animal characters, the artist reinterprets human existence and social structures. These characters offer an indirect yet powerful commentary on relationships, social roles, and the realities of hierarchy. The exhibition urges us to take a closer look at the people we may pass by in our everyday lives and to engage with the diverse stories embedded within each character. Ultimately, it is a call to recognize the unseen and essential threads that hold our society together.
